Why choose a flush pull set with certain finishes?

An interior design scheme requires significant consideration, whether it’s for a residential home or for an office in the workplace. While these are very different environments, the interior design requirements we have for each are the same; a combination of practicality, ergonomic comfort and an aesthetic appeal that works. So we apply these requirements to elements such as wall colours, flooring and furnishings, but we also need to keep in mind small details such as door furniture, and this is where the flush pull sets for pocket doors become an item of major importance.
In a corridor or hallway there are usually lots of doors facing outwards. In the workplace this can be a number of different offices in series, while in the home this can be a living room door, a dining room door, a kitchen door and maybe even a downstairs toilet or a door to a cellar. The same is true on an upstairs landing. All these doors need door handles and all these handles need to match other features in the same vicinity, such as light switches and plug sockets. In total, this equates to a large number of visual features which need to match, and which you need to consider in terms of material and finish, and this includes the flush pull handles for a pocket door.
What are flush pull handles?
When a pocket door is opened, it slides along an overhead rail in the same orientation, and into a wall cavity known as the ‘pocket’. The width of the wall cavity is wide enough to accommodate the door, but there is only a small gap, and therefore, you can’t usually use a regular door handle on the pocket door, because this would stick out and prevent the door opening and closing easily. Instead, the flush pull handle is ideal in this scenario. The flush pull handle is a two-piece set fitted to either side of the door, but the mechanism used to open and close the door is a small circle with a ridge that enables the user to apply the fingers and use pressure to manoeuvre the door. The important factor is that the handle sits flush to the door and doesn’t provide any opportunity to become an obstruction, and therefore the door can move freely in each direction without any problem.
Considerations when choosing a flush pull handle
The flush pull handle is a plain and simple design which enables your pocket door mechanism to operate without issue, but there are some considerations you need to make:
- Many of our flush pull sets are supplied with a finger pull which is installed in the leading edge of the door, this allows you to pull the door out of the pocket if the door is pushed all the way back.
- Some flush pull handles come with a ‘privacy’ setting, which includes an internal thumb turn so the door can be locked. This is ideal for bathrooms, toilets or an en-suite.
- Flush pull sets are made for 35mm and 44mm thickness doors.
- The finish of your flush pull handles should match the rest of your internal décor.
How to choose the finish of your flush pull handle
Most of the flush pull handles stocked and supplied by MB Direct are round, but some are also placed on a square backing plate, so you can choose the style and shape that best suits your internal décor, but by far the biggest factor in this regard is the finish. Most interior schemes can be described as either contemporary or traditional, and while there are plenty of nuanced design ideas which make each individual scheme unique, most schemes largely fall into one of these two categories. And therefore you can apply this design thinking into the finish you choose for internal features such as light switches, plug sockets and door handles.
The flush pull handles we supply come in a range of finishes, including satin chrome, polished chrome, painted black, antique brass and polished brass. So as well as the different colours matching other features of the home, they can also match the overall style of the scheme, so chrome and black are more suited to modern, contemporary homes or offices, while a brass finish would better suit a traditional home or office.
